Send a Message to several computers.

For the NetHail program the meaning of domain and workgroup are fairly equal. From now on we will use the word domain in both cases.

You can send a message to several computers at once.

One way is to send the message to all of the computers in the domain. To do this -- select a domain from the list. You can also type the name of the domain in the Addressee box, but just be sure to append a * (star character) at the end. The message will be broadcast to all of the computers from the domain. Unfortunately the broadcast has a few downsides. First of all - the message will be sent to all of the computers from the domain. Second problem - some of the users will receive the message two or more times. Third - the broadcast message cannot be more then 128 bytes long.

Left from the "Send" button you can find the LED indicator. It will stay green while your message is less than 128 bytes, after that it will turn red. You can easily find the length of your message if you point your mouse at this indicator.

Another way to send a message to several computers is to select a few of them in the List of computers. You can do this by holding either the "Ctrl" or the "Shift" key on the keyboard while you are selecting computers with the mouse or the arrow keys. When you select more than one computer or domain in the List of computers, the Addressee box will show the words "Multiple Selection". The program will try to send the message to each selected computer or domain. It might take a while to do this, especially if the selection is big and/or if some of the computers have already been disconnected from the network. You can also save your selection for future use.
